Reduced adverbial clause maksudnya adalah bentuk adverbial clause yang sudah dipendekkan atau dipersingkat. Karena dalam proses membuat sebuah reduced adverbial clause yang akan kita buang adalah subject nya (deleting subject), dengan syarat subject dalam independent clause dengan subject dalam dependent clause nya haruslah sama.

Saat ingin membuat sebuah reduced adverbial clause kita harus mengingat syarat utama nya, yaitu subject yang sama dalam independent dan dependent clause nya. Karena jika tidak sama maka kita tidak bisa membuang subject nya, dan tentunya bila kita lakukan, maka kalimatnya akan menjadi janggal dan maknanya akan berubah.

Reduced Adverb Clause Of Causality

Because I didn’t know the direction to the zoo, I asked some people on the street. (Original)

Not knowing the direction to the zoo, I asked some people on the street. (Reduced)

Reduced Adverb Clause Of Opposition

Although they had a private vehicle, they decided to take public transportation. (Original)

Although having a private vehicle, they decided to take public transportation. (Reduced)

Rumus Dengan Be
Original : Conjunction + Subject + to be + V-ing / Noun / Adjective / V3

Reduced:
Cara 1 : Conjunction + V-ing
Cara 2 : V-ing
Cara 3 : Conjunction + being + Noun / Adjective / V3
Cara 4 : being + Noun / Adjective / V3

Contoh Kalimat:
While I was walking down the beach, I saw a whale stranded. (Original)
Cara 1 : While walking down the beach, I saw a whale stranded. (Reduced)
Cara 2 : Walking down the beachm I saw a whale stranded. (Reduced)

Because he is a doctor, he know how to fix broken bone. (Original)
Cara 3 : Because being a doctor, he know how to fix broken bone. (Reduced)
Cara 4 : Being a doctor, he know how to fix broken bone. (Reduced)

Rumus Tanpa Be
Original : Conjunction + Subject + Verb

Reduced : Conjunction + V-ing

Contoh Kalimat :
Since they came to New York, they became a street artist. (Original)
Since coming to New York, they became a street artist. (Reduced)
